I CLIMB TO INSPIRE AFRICANS
"When I climbed Mount Everest in 2003 I wanted the world to know that we Africans could do it if we had the desire and the support to climb the mountain. We had not climbed much, not because we did not know how to, but because we had never been exposed to such kind of sport. Maybe it was a cultural situation, well it doesn’t matter anymore because some of us have now been able to break out of those limited believes. Over the years that I have been climbing I have identified a lot of qualities about myself that I would otherwise not be aware of if I had not gone out to the mountains and climbed.
Climbing requires certain skills and disciplines that most young people lack naturally, but with a few climbing trips anybody can acquire these essential skills and their lives won’t be the same. Climbing has transformed me to a much better person, more positive and more driven. Mountains have taught me to respect myself, other people and the mountains themselves.
It has always been my desire to enhance and inspire young Africans to join in my footsteps and take part in the sport of climbing, because it is a great sport yet not known to most Africans. I really commend the initiative by the Climb Swaziland team to establish the project. I fully support this brilliant initiative and hereby appeal to all stake holders to support this, it is an expensive sport but one that can really change lives. I have been able to climb in different parts of the world because of individuals and corporate support. Without them I could not afford to take part in any climbing."

Climb Swaziland is a project set up to encourage climbing at school level across the kingdom of Swaziland. This website has been built by dedicated Students and Volunteers of Waterford Kamhlaba United World College of Southern Africa. As a group of climbers our aim is to demonstrate that climbing is alive in Swaziland by competing at school level, improving our facilities and setting up community service projects to involve local Swazi kids.
